Post Holiday Juicing

Happy New Year Everyone! 🙂

If you’re like most of everyone else, you spent the last month or so kicking back, indulging, enjoying time with loved ones, and almost definitely, going a little crazy with the holiday treats.

It’s no secret that the holidays almost always spell a time for binging and letting loose with the abundance of holiday goodies around every turn. The last two months of each year can turn into a feast of cookies and pies, turkey and mashed potatoes, champagne and sweets, and can leave you feeling less than your best at the onset of the new year.

Scrumptious Feast

Luckily, there’s no need to let the less-than-stellar end of last year carry into this one. It’s a new year after all, and a time to turn over a new leaf for your health and make some positive changes. One of the quickest, most effective, and most delicious ways to get started right, even if you haven’t quite taken that first step toward your New Year resolutions yet, is with juicing. Consider it a reset button on your health.

If you’re ready to slough off those bad habits and pick up a healthy new one that can set the tone for the rest of 2018, read on, and let’s get to juicing.

Why Juice Now?

Simply put, juicing is your best bet to give your body high amounts of nutrients in one single dose. Rather than having to spend hours a day prepping and cooking and eating more fruits and veggies than most of have to consume in one day, drinking a simple fruit and veggie juice gives your body the vitamins and nutrients you need, without having to force down serving after serving of produce.

Juicing for Health!

When you’re filling your body with the wholesome nutrients it needs, rather than chowing down on empty calories, sugary processed foods, white carbs, and other common treats that leaves the body crashing and depleted, your body will actually start to crave more of the good stuff. After the holidays is the perfect time to juice, because you’ll quite literally be setting your body up for continued healthy cravings and habits all year long.

What Not to Do

As well meaning as they can be, juice cleanses and routines can unfortunately also have a darker side. All too often, people turn to juicing as a fix-all answer, hoping it will be the solution to all of their dietary woes. To be sure, juicing is no magic pill solution. There’s no shortcut when it comes to your overall health, and though juicing can do doubt play a crucial role in an overall healthy diet, don’t be fooled by the fitness models and celebrity endorsements of seemingly-too-good-to-be-true cleanse and detoxes. In many cases, these can do more harm than good. By going overboard and dangerously restricting your calories or looking at juicing as a cure-all, you can actually just end up putting your body through more stress. By severely limiting your calories, such as when on a juice cleanse, your body will be forced to dig into muscle reserves for fuel. This will ultimately leave you feeling weak and worn down, and more likely to pack back on any pounds you lost once you resume normal eating.

Balanced diet is key.

So, steer clear from the feast or famine approach, regardless of how tempting it might be, and stay focused on a sustainable, long-term, healthy lifestyle–not a quick fix. Stick to your common-sense routine of exercise, plenty of healthy grains, veggies, fruits, and lean proteins, and integrate juicing into that as a key part of an overall healthy lifestyle.

Recipes to Try Out

One of the most nutritionally dense and low sugar and calorie options (AKA more of the good, less of the bad) is a good green juice. More veggies and less fruit mean less sugar, which is always a good thing. Try any of these three healthy options to clean out your system, reset your cravings (for healthy things!), sharpen your mind, increase your energy, and feel overall healthier and happier going into the near year. Cheers!
